Your licence simplified

As of May 2020, we’re introducing a new licence.

The Simplified Licence

The Simplified Licence provides the same cover as the current Business and Web End User Licence combined. It allows you to make or receive web, digital (e.g. scan, email, PDF) and paper copies from all the titles we represent. Plus copying limits and user numbers are much simpler to understand.

Three factors determine your fee:

Why do you need a licence?

UK publishers invest over £1bn every year in the creation of content. Presses have to run, websites have to be maintained and journalists have to be paid.

If copyright wasn’t enforced, the industry would suffer.

A minimum of 80% of the revenue we collect goes back to publishers, that’s equivalent to keeping over 1000 journalists in a job.

We also donate £100,000 every year to the Journalism Diversity Fund, create a daily text feed for the RNIB and our ‘News Library’ gives UK schools online access to content from over 150 titles.

Your licence fee helps make all of this possible.

The licence is optional

It’s up to you whether you continue with your current licence(s), or move to the new Simplified Licence. Either way, your usage rights will remain the same, but the Simplified Licence may give you more freedom and flexibility.

Whether you’re enquiring about your first licence or you’re ready to renew, we’ll give you costs to compare and answer any questions. Then you can choose the licence that works best for you.
