How the NLA can help Licensees during the COVID-19 emergency

At this difficult time, we recognise that, like every business, our end-user licensees are facing unique challenges as they focus on the safety of their people and the continuity of their operations.

NLA is anxious to help.

Striking a balance

We also have to recognise that publishers need our support at a time when their businesses may be coming under strain from a drop in advertising and print sales. Over eighty per cent of our revenues go back to publishers – revenues which help to support the jobs of journalists whose reporting is needed now more than ever.

NLA is a regulated Collective Management Organisation, so there are legal boundaries within which we have to operate. We also have to strike a balance between turning a sympathetic ear to licensees with operational and financial issues, and ensuring that publishers receive the revenue they are due from people who use their content for commercial purposes.

At a time like this, striking such a balance is not always easy, but we are committed to trying.

Getting in touch

It goes without saying we all hope as many businesses as possible survive these unprecedented times unscathed.

However, if you hold an NLA end-user licence and have been asked to renew or are experiencing financial difficulties, we urge you to get in touch as soon as possible.

In order to continue to support publishers and act within the law, we cannot offer unconditional promises or guarantees. But we are always on the end of a phone line and may be able to help or advise you in a variety of ways, including using our new simplified licence which has proven to be incredibly popular with smaller companies.

Please let us know which company you are from and your message will be forwarded to your account manager.
