NLA media access grants licences to UK and International media monitoring agencies which supply content in paper and digital format to clients.
The media monitoring agency (MMO) can select one, or a number of our licences depending on their client copying requirements. The licence options include:
The most basic form of licence is the Paper licence which allows photocopying of newspaper content to supply clients in the form of press packs and is charged on a per copy basis subject to a monthly minimum fee.
The Database licence permits the accessing, searching and delivery of electronic content to clients via the NLA's eClips database - an online database of newspaper articles. eClips licensees receive a feed of content in XML format on which to conduct client specific searches. Please note, that News International titles are only available in digital format via eClips and to those agencies who have a Database Licence.
The Database licence fees include an annual subscription fee and a per copy fee. Fees vary depending on the type of eClips service subscribed to, details for which you can find here. Please note that fees under the Electronic licence are discounted by 50% on purchase of the eClips service.
Both the Electronic and Database licences grant agencies and their clients 28 days access to electronic content, after which, they must be deleted. In addition, Database licensees can offer a MyArchive service to clients who wish to have access to their content for a full year.
The Web Database licence gives agencies the right to copy and supply (in the form of links) selected newspaper website material to clients.
Details of the licence rights can be found in the agency licence available as a download.
The eClips Web licence is required by any agencies receiving a direct eClips Web feed of newspaper websites and supplying links or copies to clients. eClips Web includes News International websites (The Sun, The Times etc.) that is not available through any other source as the publisher prohibits any commercial scraping of their websites.
Both the Web Database and eClips Web licence are charged on the number of clients being supplied NLA media access web content.
eClips International is a service for agencies that supply NLA content outside the UK. Prices can be found in the eClips International section.
All licensed media monitoring agencies are subject to monthly reporting and annual auditing requirements. They are also required to register all digital users with us and access to web portals must be restricted to clients via unique username and password.
